Kerry Purnell specialises in Protected Area Expansion and Biodiversity Stewardship. She is currently managing the Northern Cape Land Project focusing on expanding and creating Protected Areas in Namaqualand and the Tankwa Karoo. This has been an ongoing project supporting government at a Provincial and National level for the last four years. Prior to working for Wilderness Foundation Africa, Kerry was the Protected Area Expansion and Stewardship Programme Manager for CapeNature. Her career with CapeNature spanned twelve years and during this period the organisation declared over fifty Nature Reserves conserving over 100 000ha of threatened vegetation types.
She is passionate about biodiversity conservation at a landscape scale and sees Protected Area expansion and partnerships as an excellent tool to achieve this. Her academic qualifications include a B.Tech degree in Nature Conservation and an Agricultural Diploma in Extension from Elsenburg.
