On Sunday 12th September, Dan Sutcliffe, Registered Veterinary Nurse and Area Manager for Medivet, will be taking part in the Great North Run in an inflatable rhino costume, in support of Wilderness Foundation Africa’s Forever Wild Rhino Protection Initiative.
Medivet has long been a supporter of this initiative, with the Medivet project being coordinated by Dr William Fowlds, a wildlife vet based in the Eastern Cape and previous Medivet employee. The funds raised through the project are channelled towards: dog detection and protection; rhino rescue and support; education and awareness; and WFA’s Wildlife Operations Group.
On his participation in the race, Dan said: “I’m raising funds to help protect the rhino because the conservation of these magnificent animals is so important, and I hope the added pressure of supporting the charity will propel me across the finish line! Running in the rhino suit will be tough but it has an internal fan which I hope will keep me cool on the day. Let’s hope the weather will be kind!”
