Mountain Zebra Camdeboo Corridor
This two year project was managed by Wilderness Foundation Africa, and funded by the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) as part of the Maputaland-Pondoland-Albany Hotspot programme.
An opportunity had been identified to consolidate and expand the protected area estate within the area that includes both the Mountain Zebra National Park (MZNP) complex and the Camdeboo National Park complex. The project footprint included one of the top three identified priorities for large formal protected areas within the grassland biome and complimented the MZNP to Camdeboo consolidation areas for SANParks.
The project was successfully concluded in February 2014 with the following successes:
- 69 Landowners involved in Corridor
- Application for Declaration of Protected Environment submitted to National Minister of Environmental Affairs, for the Mountain Zebra Camdeboo Corridor Protected Environment with a total of 268 428 hectares. Decision now pending.
