Audi Terra Nova Awards

The Audi Terra Nova Award was established in 1994 and is now regarded by many as the premier environmental award in South Africa. Its objective being to discover and encourage the many unsung, dedicated heroes who are quietly working, often against overwhelming odds, towards the Preservation or Protection of the Environment in all of its aspects, air, land, water and all living creatures including of course man thus also reflecting the four rings of Audi. During 2005, it was decided to include a second major category - that of, Environmentally Sustainable Community Upliftment.
Audi Terra Nova Award nominees are people with their feet firmly on the ground, who have devoted their lives to bringing about tangible change, and have truly made the world a better place.
In 2005, there were two awards ceremonies at which two winners from each category were awarded a prize of R15 000. In February 2006, a five person judging panel will select two overall winners (one from each category) and they will each receive an additional R15 000 from Audi of South Africa. The overall winners will be those whose work, in the opinion of the judges has achieved the most impact.
During 2006, we plan to hold three awards ceremonies where once again two winners from each category will be chosen and each receive an amount of R15 000. A final ceremony will be held in early 2007, where the two overall winners will be chosen from the final six and receive an award of R15 000.
On Friday 17th February 2006, the two overall winners were announced at a banquet at the Park Hyatt Johannesburg. The 2005 Audi Terra Nova Awards winners are Mrs Nora Kreher, Founder of the Bateleurs (Category 3) and Dr Guy Preston, the Initiator of Working for Water. (Category 1)
